This conference is designated for Physicians (Psychiatrists, Primary Care and OB/GYN), Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners

Description

The purpose of this educational activity is to address the current opioid crisis we are experiencing in our nation, state and local communities by promoting best practice treatments for safer, more rational opioid prescribing with specific focus on decreasing morbidity and mortality related to prescription opioids and improving chronic pain management. This activity will include information on Medication Assisted Treatment for those who do have an opioid use disorder as well as other available treatment resources in the local communities. Programming is consistent with the NCMC initiative on safer opioid prescribing as well as the NC Opioid Action Plan to promote evidence based practices that mitigate risks of opioids.

Accreditation Statement
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Carolinas HealthCare System/Charlotte AHEC and Cardinal Innovations Healthcare. Carolinas HealthCare System/Charlotte AHEC is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

  • Describe the elements of assessment and risk stratification for safer opioid us and contraindications for use
  • Discuss rationale for referral for evaluation for additional treatment such as medication assisted treatment
