Description

Trauma is a universal experience of all individuals, though it impacts everyone differently. Being trauma-informed and resilience-focused is not only an expectation of most funders, but a requirement from those we serve and serve next to. An individual’s experience of trauma impacts every area of human functioning — physical, mental, behavioral, social and spiritual, in the short-term of their everyday existence and the long term journey of life. Community providers and stakeholders are expected to competently intervene in this area to assist in individual resilience building and healing, which leads to community resilience and healing. The day-long Reframing Resilience Summit will include plenaries and sessions focused on the journey of the county, organizations and individuals. We will be focused on our youth and families as well as the staff that serves them - providing information and resources to assist participants in recapturing their why to remain steady and vigilant in this work.

The purpose of this event is to continue the increased shared knowledge in the community of the strategies, tools, and resources for trauma-informed approach and resilience. This event is funded through Mecklenburg County ReCAST II, a SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) grant awarded to Mecklenburg County Public Health. ReCAST II supports community-based approaches to improved behavioral health and violence prevention for youth and families that strengthen ways communities collectively reduce trauma and engage and empower residents for sustained community change and healing.
