This knowledge-based CPE activity will provide the pharmacist with education on different approaches for managing statin intolerant patients. It will enable healthcare professionals to better guide treatment for patients with an indication for statin use.

Objectives

  • Recall the epidemiology, pathophysiology and first line treatment options for dyslipidemia.
  • Discuss a management strategy for patient who reports muscle symptoms while on a statin.
  • Describe a patient with a true statin intolerance
  • Identify an appropriate pharmacotherapy plan for a patient with statin intolerance
