Objectives

  • Hullender: Participants will explain the components of Eat, Sleep, Console as a method of assessing babies with NAS.
  • Coppage: Participants will discuss the goals of the ESC approach for treating Neonatal Withdrawal through firsthand account of implementation at a large community hospital. Benefits and Barriers will be detailed. This is Quality Improvement Initiative report and not clinical research.
  • Connors: Participants will understand differences in maternal care related to social, economic, and/or environmental disadvantages.
  • Woolworth: To discuss the risk factors, implications, and outcomes associated with obesity in pregnancy.
  • Woolworth: To discuss management/care patients with obesity in labor, delivery, and postpartum.
  • Cogburn: Discuss best practices in managing diabetes in pregnancy and the impact on lactation.
  • Cogburn: Describe the impact of medical nutrition therapy and physical activity on diabetes care during pregnancy.
  • Cogburn: Describe best practices for lactation management with diabetes.
  • Westveer: Discuss the new Joint Commission Perinatal Safety Standards
  • Westveer: Identify nursing implications and resources
  • Westveer: Observe and evaluate a mock interview with a Joint Commission surveyor
  • Shaffer: Discuss the new Joint Commission Perinatal Safety Standards
  • Shaffer: Identify nursing implications and resources
  • Shaffer: Observe and evaluate a mock interview with a Joint Commission surveyor
  • Severin: Participant will discuss a historical review of Perinatal/Neonatal Outreach in North Carolina.
  • Severin: Participants will discuss a review of Maternal and Neonatal Health Outcomes in the U.S. and North Carolina.
  • Severin: Participants will understand the purpose and programmatic details of the Perinatal Nurse Champion Program
