ALERT - The health and safety of our learners is of the utmost importance to us. We are closely monitoring the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. After much consideration and with circumstances changing so rapidly, Charlotte AHEC has cancelled this training. We are fully committed to ensuring that our attendees and staff remain safe and well.

This course will educate the rehab professional regarding Multiple Sclerosis (MS) subtypes, current treatment trends, and symptomatic management of the disease. The role of the rehab professional in assessing and developing treatment plans will be explored across MS subtype presentations culminating in symptom management specific recommendations for patient stability, improvement, and wellness.

Charlotte AHEC, as part of the NC AHEC system, is an approved provider by the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners with regard to activities directly related to physical therapy for continued competence.

Objectives

  • Understand Multiple Sclerosis (MS), its etiology, subtypes and diagnosis
  • Identify MS treatment, common symptoms and management options
  • Review rehabilitation and exercise principles and identify and interpret special considerations and their impact in MS
  • Explain the unique components of the subjective exam (i.e., history) and how to utilize in MS
  • Identify and apply appropriate MS specific protocol and general assessment tools
  • Use information on background, interventions and evidence to infer effective intervention programs for common impairments, activity and participation limitations in MS
  • Interpret and discuss strengths and weaknesses in research on rehabilitation and exercise
  • Identify professional & client resources in MS
