Target Audience

Physicians, Nurses, Administrators, Quality Improvement Coordinators or professionals involved in supporting practices, hospitals, or other agencies in quality improvement, designing and managing clinical improvement programs for hospitals and medical practices. QI Teams as well as individuals are welcome.

Description

Quality Improvement 101 (QI 101) is an interactive learning opportunity for small teams and organizations leading initiatives to improve healthcare quality & patient safety. QI methodology will be discussed such as the Model for Improvement, Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles, project teams, and aim and goal setting. The methodology discussed may be utilized in any setting and applied to any clinical or administrative function. This course builds skills and knowledge among participating hospitals, clinical practices, AHEC regional offices, and other healthcare organizations in order to accelerate the application of QI methods. Interaction among participants and faculty allow for frequent sharing of knowledge and best practices.

The program includes the following activities:
* Pre-work Conference calls offered to help focus efforts and the selection of a project for the course
*AHEConnect online module recommended for pre-course viewing. Covers QI history, Team Development, Project Selection/FAQs.
* Workshop #1 - A two-day workshop offering interactive sessions highlighting planning and implementing improvement
* Three 1-hour conference calls and a listserv that features tips and strategies to keep the momentum going
* Workshop #2 - A two-day, hands on workshop that focuses on developing strategies to sustain and spread improvement efforts

CREDITS: 13.5 Contact Hours / 1.35 CEUs (Workshop 1)
14.5 Contact Hours / 1.45 CEUs (Workshop 2)
