Description

This presentation will provide a brief overview of ethical principles in decision making in healthcare and review legal tools and decision support strategies in behavioral health.

This is a program of NC AHEC and an approved program from NC DHHS. Funding for this program has been provided by NC DHHS.

Participants using material for the tailored care management requirements must attend the entire program to receive credit.

a. You will register for each course separately and receive a certificate for each completed course
2. RECORDED – As one class containing all 25 sessions, available July of 2023.
a. You will register once, for the sessions you need, and receive one certificate upon completion of the last session

Objectives

• Identify concepts of autonomy and self-determination in healthcare
• Demonstrate capacity and competence and review when guardianship may be needed
• Describe criteria for involuntary inpatient and outpatient commitment in North Carolina
• Apply legal and clinical tools that can serve as alternatives to guardianship, including supported decision making, health care power of attorney, and advance instructions for mental health treatment
