Target Audience

Nurses wishing to refresh their understanding of common medications and improve their clinical decision-making. This includes nurses returning to practice, new nurses, and nurses currently in practice.

Description

This workshop is provided in cooperation with UNC-Chapel Hill School of Nursing.

By utilizing a building and scaffolding approach to content delivery, this course will take you from a review of the basics of pharmacology to treatment plans for common clinical conditions. With each new section, we will take a look at pertinent pathophysiology to best support your understanding of related pharmacology.

This workshop will be interactive, engaging and informative. Laughter included and encouraged!

Learning Outcome
After attending this workshop, participants will be able to describe the different classifications of medications, their clinical usage, and key aspects for nursing care.

About the Speaker
Leigh Mullen, MSN, RN, FNP-C is a Clinical Instructor with UNC-Chapel Hill School of Nursing.

Objectives

  • Describe the various classes of drugs according to the suffix for each class
  • Explain the clinical uses for the different classes of drugs.
  • Discuss the typical treatment plans for common clinical conditions.
  • Discuss critical clinical interactions between medications and food or supplements.
  • Identify key points of nursing care related to the medications discussed.
