Description

Individuals, teams, and organizations thrive under courageous leaders, who are curious, confident, and focused on potential. Join us in this introduction to Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead™ curriculum, and learn the skill sets associated with courage.

Based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown, Dare to Lead™ is an empirically based courage-building program. Brené is a research professor at the University of Houston, where she holds the Huffington Foundation – Brené Brown Endowed Chair at The Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the last two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame and empathy, and most recently completed a seven-year study on courageous leadership.

The most significant finding from Brené’s latest research is that courage is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable. This half-day workshop will provide an introduction to the full 16-hour curriculum, and cover topics related to building trust in the workplace, recognizing and managing shame-based behaviors, and the importance of clarity around the values that guide the ways we live and work.

Who Should Attend?
• Those who manage, inspire, and train teams
• Those who want to live and work in ways aligned with their values

Objectives

  • Explain that it’s armor – not fear – that is the greatest obstacle to daring leadership. We can be brave and afraid at the same time.
  • Identify the four empirically based, teachable, measurable, observable skill sets that make up courage: rumbling with vulnerability, living into our values, BRAVING trust, and learning to rise.
  • Distinguish why vulnerability (uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure) is the foundational skill set of courage, and the birthplace of many of the behaviors that define daring leadership, including creativity, accountability, and engagement in difficult conversations.
  • Interpret how values operate in our professional lives and the role they play in integrity and daring leadership.
  • Recognize the ways that self-compassion and empathy are connected, and the importance of emotional literacy and regulation for effective communication, connection, and resilience.
  • Develop an understanding about the incremental ways in which trust is developed, and the utility of the BRAVING acronym for understanding and building trust.
