Health care professionals, healthcare administration, all professionals and interested stakeholders in healthy communities
Community Medicine is an approach that considers what is happening outside the walls of the clinical space that is impacting the health of the members of a diverse community. The emphasis in community medicine is on the early diagnosis of disease, the recognition of environmental and occupational hazards to good health, and the prevention of disease in the community. In addition, community medicine aims to identify social concerns of the patient that contribute to health and illness and understand how the community plays a role in supporting those social needs. This class will engage participants in a conversation about ways to integrate “community” into the clinical encounters with patients, providers and staff.
