HEROES Health Career Connection: A Teen Health Career Club
October – May
Our Teen Health Career Club is for high school students that are interested in learning more about careers in healthcare. It meets once a month from 6pm – 8pm. Students will thoroughly enjoy health science workshops, field trips, health career speakers, games and so much more! Applications for the 2017-2018 Health Career Club will be available in August 2017.
SAT Prep Strategies Workshop
Raise your SAT scores! This course is taught by Mr. Morrison Giffen, formerly of the Princeton Review. Mr. Giffen has over 20 years of experience in providing successful, high quality test preparation for SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, LSAT and MCAT students. Students will understand the importance of the SAT, learn strategies for reading and math, take a mock SAT exam, and receive helpful feedback during the exam scoring and review session. Future Leaders in Healthcare Conference
(For current HEROES students only)
The North Carolina AHEC in conjunction with its Health Careers and Workforce Diversity Council will host its annual Future Leaders in Healthcare Conference in a different city in North Carolina every year. This conference is for 9th-12th grade students who are interested in a career in healthcare. The conference will introduce students to healthcare professionals, college and university representatives, an array of workshops and speakers and extra-curricular activities designed with students in mind.
HEROES Summer Program
This one-week residential program is for students in high school who have an interest in pursuing a career in healthcare. Students will interact with healthcare professionals and participate in an array of medical science workshops designed to expose them to various careers in healthcare.
High School Nurse Aide I Summer Program
Open to any high school student
Are you a high school student that wants to get your Nurse Aide certification and work as a Certified Nursing Assistant? Then this is the summer program for you! The Nurse Aide I Program is a 130-hour non-credit course providing the resources and enhanced learning opportunities for students to develop appropriate, fundamental patient care skills in a supervised and controlled setting. The CCHS Nurse Aide I Program is approved by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR) and meets Federal Guidelines. Applicants must be 17 years of age or older who have completed their junior year of high school and are interested in becoming a Nurse Aide I. If you are interested in participating in the HEROES program, here's how to apply:
- 1. Students in 8th - 12th grade, with at least a 3.0 GPA, should add their name to the e-mailing list. Students that are already apart of the HEROES program may get first dibbs on the programs, however, we are always looking to fill empty spaces. Add your name to the Charlotte AHEC Email List and we will send you information on upcoming programs.
- 2. Wait to receive an application for the next program. The HEROES programs are outlined here for high school students and middle school students. The application will arrive about 1 month prior to the event.
