Target Audience

NPs, PAs, RNs and pharmacists working in acute care, ambulatory care, cardiology specialty, primary care, telehealth, community health, cardiac rehab and transition clinics.

Description

The curriculum includes up to date pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of drug classes, the why behind the drugs, clinical practice guidelines, and practical implications for the RN, pharmacist, and advanced practice provider practicing in the ambulatory or acute care setting. This interprofessional education program will be co-taught by faculty representing Pharmacy and Nursing.

Continuing Education Credit For Pharmacists:
The University Of North Carolina Eshelman School Of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. The program ACPE #0046-9999-23-049-L01-P(pharmacist) provides 3.25 contact hours of continuing pharmacy education credit. To receive CE credit, you must complete the CE attendance form and the evaluation of the program. Statement of credit can be viewed and printed in CPE Monitor. Objectives

  • Identify pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of heart failure medications. 
  • Describe pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of hypertension medications 
  • Define pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of dyslipidemia.
  • Relate clinical practice guidelines with medication classes & disease processes.
  • Outline interdisciplinary interactions between pharmacists, nurses, and APP to improve patient care. 
  • Identify medication considerations for the geriatric population.
  • Recognize elements of patient assessment and social determinants of health to determine resources needed to promote optimal health outcomes.
