Target Audience

Physicians, Nurses, Administrators, Quality Improvement Coordinators or professionals involved in supporting practices, hospitals, or other agencies in quality improvement, designing and managing clinical improvement programs for hospitals and medical practices. QI Teams as well as individuals are welcome.

Are you looking for a structured way to approach complicated challenges like addressing health disparities, streamlining work, and delivering better care? Quality Improvement 101 (QI 101) is an interactive, collaborative learning opportunity for organizational teams leading initiatives to improve healthcare quality & patient safety. Participants will explore proven QI methods and tools that can be used in all settings from hospitals to clinics to community health. Curriculum includes what teams need to know for successful and meaningful project work such as QI and health equity, co-design with patients/families, measuring for improvement, team dynamics and more! This course builds learners’ skills and knowledge to accelerate the understanding and application of QI methods.

Improvement science provides a roadmap for problem-solving, using inquiry and testing to efficiently produce actionable learning. QI methodology will be discussed such as the Model for Improvement, Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycles, project teams, and aim and goal setting. The methodology discussed may be utilized in any setting and applied to any clinical or administrative function. This course builds capacity among participants in order to accelerate the application of QI methods and support sustained improvements. Interaction among participants and faculty allow for frequent sharing of knowledge and best practices

Workshop and Conference Call Dates:
Workshop 1: February 21 & 22, 2023. A two-day workshop offering interactive sessions highlighting planning and implementing improvement.
Day 1 - 8:30 AM - 4:35 PM
Day 2 - 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Workshop 2: May 24 & 25, 2023. A two-day, hands-on workshop that focuses on developing strategies to sustain and spread improvement efforts
Day 3 - 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Day 4 - 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Conference Call 1: March 21, 2023 | 12 – 1 PM
Conference Call 2: April 20, 2023 | 12 – 1 PM

Charlotte Area Health Education Center is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Workshop 1 (February 21 & 22, 2023): 13.0 Nursing Contact Hours
Workshop 2 (May 24 & 25, 2023): 14.0 Nursing Contact Hours
Conference calls (March 21 and April 19, 2023): 2.0 Nursing Contact Hours

Nurses must attend 90% of each workshop day and conference call in order to receive full credit for this course.

Learner Outcome:
Participant will be able to gain knowledge and skills about the quality improvement and how QI methods can be applied to their daily work to drive best practices and improve patient care.
