Description

Individuals who identify as a gender different than assigned at birth identify as Transgender and make up about 0.5% of the US population which equates to 1.4 million people according to the Williams Institute 2016 survey (Flores AR, 2016). Transgender individuals often have challenges when seeking affirming and knowledgeable healthcare providers. According to the 2011 National Transgender Discrimination Survey, there are several disparities experienced by transgender individuals as a result of not having trained healthcare providers. The knowledge gaps identified in various studies have resulted in the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Primary Health Care to establish the National LGBT Health Education Center (Ard, 2018). This online module is to educate providers on the standards of care outlined by the Endocrine Society and World Professional association for Transgender Health. This module will address the diagnostic requirements as well as the process to begin providing hormone therapy. It will also cover the risk/benefit as well as the reversible and irreversible effects of hormone therapy.

This online self-paced learning module is available only to Atrium Health teammates. Please use the registration code included in the invitation email to register or on PeopleConnect.
