This event is jointly provided by Charlotte AHEC and Carolinas Healthcare System

The 6th Annual Carolinas HealthCare System Nursing Research Symposium: Unraveling the Pain Puzzle will focus on enhancing the quality of patient care in pain management through evidence-based practice and an integrative care approach.

Learning Outcomes
Provide evidence based tools and processes that preserve and enhance the care and dignity of patients who are experiencing acute and or chronic pain

Identify and apply important concepts for assisting pain patients in sensitive, understanding and supportive ways


Keynote Speakers:
Ann Quinlan-Colwell, PhD, RNC, AHN-BC, DAAPM

Dr. Ann Quinlan-Colwell works as a Pain Management Clinical Nurse Specialist at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She has worked in pain management for nearly 20 years and participated in earlier item writing courses for ANCC RN Pain Management Certification Exam and have written one of the reference books. She has provided local, national and international education in pain management for many years. Dr. Ann Quinlan-Colwell holds a Bachelor of Arts in Nursing from State University of New Year, Masters of Science in Nursing with an area of specialty in Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist at State University of New York. She also obtained a Post Master's Certificate Program in Psych-Mental Health from UNC Chapel Hill and a Doctoral Program in Nursing at UNC Greensboro. Dr. Ann Quinlan-Colwell is a fellow in American Academy of Pain Management. She is a certified pain management nurse by ANCC and a certified instructor in holistic stress management.


Sherry McCulley-Hall, MSN, RN-BC, Clinical Nurse Specialist
Sherry is a Clinical Nurse Specialist for Charles George VA Medical Center. She has worked in the nursing field for over 35 years. Sherry received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Berea College and Masters of Science in Nursing with an area of study as an Adult Health Care Specialist at UNC Charlotte with a clinical concentration in Oncology Nursing. In 2012, Sherry worked collaboratively with 7 Pain Management Nurse Experts from the VA as well as the University of Wisconsin in the development of the Pain Resource Nurse Program targeting the Veteran Population. Sherry is credentialed by the ANCC as a Certified Nurse Pain Management provider.
