Physicians, NPs, PAs, social workers, psychologists, licensed professional counselors, educators/teachers, school personnel, mental health professionals, substance abuse professionals, clinicians, nurses, health and human service practitioners, concerned community members, emergency medical technicians, law enforcement, and people impacted by opioid use disorder.
Using a comprehensive and stigma-free view of opioid use disorder (OUD), the program will enhance the effectiveness of front-line professionals who work to prevent and treat OUD. It will include presentations on harm reduction methods, cultural competency skills, the relationship between childhood trauma and addiction, meeting challenges posed by Covid-19, and using self-care to protect the wellbeing of engaged professionals. Each presenter will provide information for securing free local resources on their topic.
Credit will be given by session! Earn up to 8 hours!

September 22nd - Harm Reduction Basics

Ms. Mathis will describe how this focus on reducing risk, instead of promoting abstinence, can help engage and build alignment with people living with substance use disorders.
September 29th - Preventing Substance Use Disorder Among Youth

Mr. Mayo will describe the social, familial, and individual interventions for “inoculating” youth from experimenting and using opioids.
October 6th - Building Resilience in Children Whose Parents Have SUD

Dr. Melendez will describe how to help children develop skills to achieve normal development when their parents are living with substance use disorder.
October 13th - Working in Faith Communities

Dr. Julen will describe steps clergy and lay faith leaders can take in their congregations to remove stigma and support persons directly and indirectly impacted by opioid use disorder.
October 20th - Best Opioid Treatment Practices
Andrew Schrag, Partners Health Management
Mr. Schrag will describe the most effective approaches for treating opioid use disorder.
October 27th - Narcan and GEMS
Josha Crabtree, Gaston Emergency Medical Services
Ms. Crabtree will describe Narcan, using it to reverse opioid overdoses, how GEMS uses it in the field, and its Narcan distribution program.
November 3rd - Hepatitis C Treatment and HIV Education
Erin Hultgren, Kintegra Health
Ms. Hultgren will share how Kintegra Health screens, treats, and cures patients with Hepatitis C and educates them to manage and stop the spread of HIV.
