Target Audience

Persons who have successfully completed the 3-Day UNCG Health Coach Training (Track I/Level 1) and the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) Health Coach Certificate Program (or currently in the process of obtaining the certificate), who are interested in becoming a National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC).

Interested in becoming a National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC)?
This training will help you develop master coaching skills and prepare you to sit for the National Certifying Exam.

Overview:
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) Health and Wellness Coach Training Program prepares participants for effective professional practice in which coaching approaches and competencies are applied to help people increase their quality of life. This program will introduce participants to evidence-based methods and techniques that help clients build self-confidence and self-management skills while addressing their personal barriers, identifying their own solutions and achieving their health & wellness goals.

The Advanced Health & Wellness Coach Training is the more intensive component of UNCG’s 2-part program. Participants new to health & wellness coaching will begin with Level 1, Foundations of Health and Wellness Coaching. After fulfilling the requirements for Level 1, participants interested in becoming a national board-certified coach will proceed to Level 2, The Advanced Health & Wellness Coach Training.

The UNCG Health and Wellness Coach Training Program has been approved by the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) for the education and training of health and wellness coaches. This approval allows Advanced Health and Wellness Coach Training program graduates to be eligible to sit for the NBHWC Certifying Examination. Eligibility:
In order to enroll in the Advanced Health and Wellness Coach Training (Level 2), participants must:
1. Successfully complete the 3-Day UNCG Health Coach Training (Level 1);
2. Obtain the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) Health Coach Certificate (or currently in the process of obtaining the certificate).

Zoom Training Dates & Times - TBA (Eastern Standard Time)


Program Framework:
*Synchronous Learning: Participants will engage in 3 Zoom live webinar trainings (see dates above);
*Asynchronous Learning: Between live trainings, participants will complete modules that further build upon health coaching competencies;
*Health & Wellness Modules: Participants will complete health and wellness modules that provide a solid working familiarity of current evidence-based recommendations related to identifying risk factors for chronic disease, commonly used biometric measures, and current lifestyle recommendations for optimizing health;
*Practice Coach Sessions: Participants will conduct 6 interactive practice coaching sessions. This hands-on practice will help participants develop a deeper understanding of the strategies and skills that can be used to promote positive and sustainable change;
*Practical Skills Assessment: Participants are paired with a mentor coach and receive faculty-led developmental feedback on practical coaching skills.

Program At-a-Glance -Your Time Commitment:
The Advanced Health and Wellness Coach Training is a 9-month program in which participants will engage in a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning.

In order to receive credit, attendees must fully participate online with camera and audio for the full duration of each training day from 8:30 a.m. -5:30 p.m. Breaks will be given throughout each training day and attendance will be monitored (partial credit will not be given).

Registration ends Monday, September 13, 2021 at midnight. Enrollment is limited, so early registration is highly recommended.

Application for CHES® (entry-level) / MCHES® (advanced level) Category I continuing education contact hours (CECH) has been made to the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. (NCHEC).

Objectives

  • Explain the roles, responsibilities and competency expectations of professional health and wellness coaches;
  • Examine evidence for best practices in coaching that span health, wellness and risk reduction;
  • Describe the theoretical foundations, communication skills, tools, and ethical principles of health coaching;
  • Demonstrate effective listening based on five common dimensions of the listening process;
  • Exhibit a general knowledge of various health promotion, disease prevention and social determinants of wellness topics that may arise in a coaching conversation;
  • Critique coaching sessions conducted by self and others focusing on fidelity to the spirit and standards for professional coaching practice;
  • Utilize educational learning paradigms, adult learning principles, and experiential learning activities to optimize learning and knowledge transfer in coaching sessions;
  • Practice health, wellness and behavior change approaches that support behavior change- through simulated coaching sessions;
  • Execute core coaching skills within practice coaching sessions to be assessed for competency.
