Description

This three-hour presentation will overview tobacco use trends in the U.S., morbidity and mortality of tobacco use, including issues related to COVID-19, and the challenges faced when trying to help patients stop using tobacco. Evidence-based approaches to tobacco treatment with a focus on the evidence and guidance for quit medications and behavioral treatment will be reviewed and discussed. This evidence will be integrated in a way that provides meaningful guidance to providers working with high-risk populations. The training will also share and review tobacco use treatment referral resources such as QuitlineNC and ways to help patients access medications.

  • Discuss evidence and strategies for behavioral treatment to support quitting.
  • Describe services of QuitLineNC and resources for accessing quit medications.
  • Discuss challenges and solutions around helping patients quit tobacco use.
