Description

The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching effects on our daily lives beyond its obvious medical impact. For our youth, the increased isolation, inconsistent supervision, heightened levels of psychic stress, and a fragile economy may be driving factors for the increases in violence that many cities have witnessed over the past few months. At the same time, the pandemic has made it more difficult to establish connections and be in relationship with our youth due to school closures, social distancing, and the challenges of virtual communication. This year's conference explores both aspects of this issue with the dual goal of reducing the pandemic’s influence on youth violence occurrences, and overcoming the challenges associated with conducting effective youth violence prevention work in a virtual environment. These goals will be achieved through keynote addresses, panel discussions and breakout sessions led by local and nationally recognized youth violence prevention experts, providing conference attendees with practical and effective tips and tools that can be quickly implemented at home, school, work, or in the community.
