*Registration payment includes Credit Cards and Interfund Transfers ONLY.

Target Audience

Physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapists, certified occupational therapy assistants who treat pediatric patients

Description

This Part 2 continuation course is designed to employing evidence-based practice to increase function in pediatric patients with neurological compromise. Following the principles of the ICF model and The Guide to Physical Therapy Practice, a comprehensive review of body structure and functions will be reviewed using a suggested evaluation framework to identify underlying deficits and co-morbidities contributing to limited participation. Tests and measures for postural, fascial and integumentary systems will be reviewed for practical assessment and re-assessment. Nutritional consultation, as it relates to gut health, general wellness/prevention, hydration and cognition will be discussed as a part of our practice patterns. Parental instructional strategies to increase follow through of recommendations will be discussed, to improve upon practice within the context of daily life.

***Pre-Requisite: Neuroplasticity: Combining Assessments and a Multi-Sensory Treatment Approach to Motor Learning - Part 1***

Benefits of Attending:
• Immediately hone your evaluation skills using multi-system framework you can put into practice immediately
• Practice pertinent tests and measures to assess for underlying conditions and co-morbidities of the integumentary, postural, sensory and respiratory systems
• Practical treatment strategies to incorporate current principles of motor learning thru a multi-sensory, dynamic approach to promote functional participation
• Effective, evidence-based parent involvement strategies to increase caregiver engagement and follow through of therapist recommendations
• Hands on labs to engage in postural and scar assessment, joint mobilizations, and sensory strategies
• Engage in functional nutritional education for clients for daily intake as well as pre/post op recommendations to promote healing from within.

Virtual Lab Notice: Please dress in lab appropriate clothing. We will be discussing and practicing each evaluation and treatment technique.

  • Apply contemporary concepts of motor learning and neuroplasticity to treatment strategies;
  • Know how to integrate parents/caregivers into the process of rehabilitation at home, including nutrition;
  • Employ an evaluation framework as a multi-system screening tool to identify key components impairing function, which will be prioritized and targeted for intervention and goal setting;
  • Describe the components of the core and how each impact postural control, as well as treatment strategies to improve function;
  • Exercise clinical judgement in the use of focal or whole-body vibration.
