Psychological trauma affects more than 1 in 5 people in the general population. This reported statistic under-represents trauma prevalence rates in behavioral health settings, where exposure to negative contextual or environmental experiences commonly underlies client’s presenting issues and impacts the therapeutic relationship. This session will examine the relationships between psychological trauma, therapist performance, and client engagement. This presentation will discuss and demonstrate trauma-informed assessment and treatment interventions that are effective when meeting “difficult clients” where they are.
