Youth experience conflict on a regular basis and in a variety of ways; learning how to effectively manage conflict is an important step in their maturation towards adulthood. Poorly managed conflict can quickly escalate into physical and emotional violence, especially in young people. Today, youth experience many violent influences on a daily basis and are not adept at utilizing non-violent strategies when serious conflict arises. This year’s Youth Violence Prevention Conference examines the concept of conflict as a potential precursor to violence and explores strategies and skills that may be effective in interrupting the progression of conflict into violence.
