Event Information
Trauma is a near universal experience of individuals who seek assistance from behavioral health providers. Addressing trauma is now the expectation, not the exception, in behavioral health care agencies. An individual’s experience of trauma impacts every area of human functioning — physical, mental, behavioral, social and spiritual. Community providers and stakeholders are expected to view the people they serve and support through the trauma lens and to competently intervene in this area. The good news is that trauma is treatable and organizations can become trauma-informed in order to best meet the needs of the people they serve.
The two-day Mecklenburg ReCAST Trauma Summit includes:
Day 1: This summit will teach participants about trauma, its prevalence and impact, including the latest information on trauma and the brain and intergenerational trauma and resilience. This training explores the connection between behavior and trauma and identifies trauma-informed ways to intervene with those that have experienced trauma.
Day 2: Participants will learn what being trauma-informed looks like within their specific work and key strategies for implementing this approach as well as the connection between self-care and compassion fatigue. Participants will choose from one of the following tracks: Justice, Health, Government, Nonprofit, Education and Faith.
