Description

Critical Care Boot Camp for Non-Intensivists: This session will be a mix of didactics, simulation, and procedural task training to provide participants an intense 1-day course in ICU basics, emphasizing the current care standards, resources, and pathways through Atrium Health’s Adult Critical Care services.

Critical Care in Hematology-Oncology: This session will familiarize the learner with the recognition and initial treatment of common oncology-related emergencies. Deductive reasoning, selection of appropriate diagnostic aides, and institution of timely interventions will be emphasized in this day-long course utilizing simulation-based learning. In addition, a basic understanding of common treatment-related conditions through a hands-on component will facilitate learner appreciation of commonly available strategies to manage the patients with cancer-related processes.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 9.0 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Objectives

  • Identify and treat patients with severe sepsis, including the use of sepsis algorithms
  • Recognize and treat common complications of severe sepsis and other infected patients
  • Provide strategies to treat acute hypoxemic respiratory failure associated with sepsis
  • Develop an understanding of the evidence behind various treatment strategies for acute hypoxemic respiratory failure
  • Recognize and manage severe ARDS
  • Develop an understanding of conventional ventilatory strategies and rescue strategies for patients with ARDS
  • Demonstrate understanding of devices, catheters, and maneuvers directed to optimizing resuscitation of patients with sepsis and ARDS
  • Develop an understanding of resource utilization for critically ill patients, and the role of telemedicine in assisting in the management of these patients
  • Identify oncologic and hematological-related emergencies
  • Recognize and treat common complications of cancer-related therapies
  • Demonstrate understanding of devices, catheters, and maneuvers directed to optimizing resuscitation of sepsis and ARDS related to the critical care of patients hematologic and oncologic conditions
  • Develop an understanding of care coordination in the patient with cancer-related illnesses
