  • Analyzing collected data to identify variation in performance, errors incurred, and factors present when errors are identified.
  • Identifies the possible causes for a problem, sorts ideas into useful categories, and identifies the most likely cause
  • Reports the variation in outcomes or processes that can be measured on a continuous scale, used to identify outliers.
  • Report whether the identified cause affects the outcome, i.e., will changing the cause improve the outcome?
