This knowledge-based CPE activity will provide the pharmacist with insight into hemophilia and the options for management of hemophilia in an inpatient setting. It will enable healthcare professionals to better guide treatment in patients with bleeding disorders.

Objectives

• Recall the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and bleeding manifestations of hemophilia
• Describe the mechanism of action, dosing, and formulations available for various hemostatic and antithrombotic agents
• Discuss clotting factor concentrates in the acute care setting
• Review the other plasma products and pharmacological options that may be used in bleeding disorders
