This workshop fulfills the "NC Dental Practice Act" which requires ALL Dental Assistants to successfully complete a radiography course approved by the NC State Board of Dental Examiners before being allowed to take x-rays on live patients. You will learn about radiation safety, the paralleling technique of intraoral radiography, and the fundamentals of both analog and digital radiography.

The Intraoral Radiography for the Office-Trained Dental Assistant program consists of three major components:
1. Part A: An online self-study course
2. A proctored written examinination
3. Part B: The Hands-On Clinical Sessions.
In Part A, the online self-study course, you will work through the online modules. Once you have successfully completed this online course and passed the proctored written exam with a minimum score of 70%, you can participate in Part B, The Hands-On Clinical Sessions.
The Clinical Sessions consist of laboratory training on mannequins, including instruction on how to expose, develop, fix, mount and evaluate dental films. You are required to complete both days. At the conclusion of Part B, you will be required to take a complete mouth series on the mannequin for your practical exam. A minimum score of 86% on this practical exam is required.
After successfully completing all parts of the Intraoral Radiography for the Office-Trained Dental Assistant program, you will receive certification in Intraoral Radiography awarded by Charlotte AHEC and the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. This will serve as your documentation that you have met the legal training requirements of the NC State Board of Dental Examiners to take dental radiographs in North Carolina.
