As a nurse leader, it is important to know the principles of fiscal management and allocation of resources to optimize care. The focus of this advanced-level workshop is on the concepts of budget development and evaluation, budget variances, financial strategies, and cost related to budgetary issues in healthcare settings.

Learning Outcome
The goal of this workshop is to provide nurse leaders with the knowledge of fiscal management principles and key components of optimization of care in the healthcare environment.

About the Speaker
Dr. Angie F. Hatley, DNP, MS, RN, NE-BC, CNL

Dr. Hatley joined Queens University of Charlotte in 2016 to share her dedication and enthusiasm for excellence in nursing practice with students in both the BSN and MSN nursing programs.

As a 2014 Doctor of Nursing Practice graduate from Regis University, her doctoral studies focused on transitions of nursing practice and completed her scholarly project on Nurse Preceptor Development and the Impact on Self-Efficacy of Newly Hired Nurses. She has practiced as a clinical nurse, educator, and/or administrator since 2001 following graduation in 2001 from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing degree and a Graduate Certificate in Health Care Education from Regis University in 2008. Dr. Hatley is both certified as a Nurse Executive by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and as a Clinical Nurse Leader by the Commission on Nurse Certification. Most recently Dr. Hatley received the 2016 Nursing Research Award at CHS Mercy.

Workshop Prerequisites
This workshop builds on the information presented in "The Beginner’s Guide to Budgeting for Nurse Leaders" scheduled for February 12, 2019.

While attendance at the beginner's level workshop is not mandatory for the advanced-level workshop, participants should have a basic understanding of budgeting in healthcare organizations.

Objectives

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts and principles of accounting.
  • Analyze financial statements, revenue sources, and service costs encountered in healthcare organizations.
  • Examine a specific focus in financial planning, analysis, and management as it relates to nursing services.
  • Identify financial strategies for survival in a value-based environment.
  • Evaluate operating and capital budgets, cost behavior, and accounting data used to plan/implement/control activities in healthcare organizations.
