Description
The addictions field continues to grow and is expanding beyond the area of Substance Use Disorders (SUD). Typically, over half of the SUD clients also have a co-occurring mental health disorder. As professionals who assess, diagnose, and treat these clients, it is necessary to have an understanding and become more familiar with the whole DSM-5. As clinicians become more specialized and focused on SUD, they may not have the same confidence in diagnosing and treating the other disorders that may present in their clients. This training will focus on mental health disorders that are often seen in combination with SUD. The basic structure of the DSM-5 will be reviewed along with symptomology and key criteria for diagnosing these common co-occurring mental health disorders. Case studies will be reviewed to allow group practice and discussion of differential diagnosing.
