Description

This course is designed to prepare new patient navigators and improve current patient navigation knowledge and skills. The goal of this course is to review and discuss the core competencies of patient navigation including roles and responsibilities, health literacy,health disparities, motivational interviewing, and HIPAA/patient rights. Participants will be prepared to facilitate access to health services and community resources for various populations.

  • Describe the role and responsibility of a patient navigator
  • Define motivational interviewing and review the basic foundation and assumptions of motivational interviewing.
  • Review the four motivational interviewing Processes: engaging, focusing, evoking and planning.
  • Define and illustrate health literacy principles.
  • Discuss the effects of health disparities
  • Reivew HIPAA regulations and Patient Rights
