Nurses working in perinatal or obstetrical care areas to include labor & delivery, mother baby and nurse leaders.
This workshop has been canceled.
The Perinatal Care measures required by The Joint Commission have brought attention to the need for nurses to be educated in ways that promote vaginal delivery and exclusive breastfeeding. Much of the improvement work associated with these core measures have identified lack of knowledge and skills by the bedside nurse that would result in a lower cesarean rate and higher exclusive breastfeeding. Direct observation of bedside nursing reveals very little touch and presence during the childbearing stay.
In this workshop, participants will evaluate the system of care they participate in daily and review and practice strategies and techniques that can promote healthy birth and recovery. They will uncover the latest research that supports or debunks common practices and learn how to modify their own skills for best outcomes for mothers and babies. Hands-on activities will be incorporated to allow participants to practice evidence-based labor-support techniques.
