Medication Management of Heart Failure, Hypertension and Dyslipidemia: An Interprofessional Approach

Target Audience

NPs, PAs and RNs working in acute care, ambulatory care, cardiology specialty, primary care, telehealth, community health, cardiac rehab and transition clinics.

Description

This interprofessional education program will be co-taught by faculty representing Pharmacy and Nursing. The curriculum includes pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of drug classes, the why behind the drugs, clinical practice guidelines, and practical implications for the RN and advanced practice provider practicing in the ambulatory or acute care setting.

Charlotte Area Health Education Center(Charlotte AHEC) is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the North Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Learning Outcome
The participant will gain an understanding of the interdisciplinary approach to the medication management of patients with heart failure, hypertension and dyslipidemia.

Objectives

  • Identify pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of heart failure medications. 
  • Describe pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of hypertension medications 
  • Define pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of dyslipidemia.
  • Relate clinical practice guidelines with medication classes & disease processes.
  • Outline interdisciplinary interactions between pharmacists, nurses, and APP to improve patient care.
