Description

Quality Improvement University ("QI University") is an educational venue established by the Atrium Health-Urgent Care Division to ensure that its physicians have access to standardized processes and medical evidenced based materials for its Advanced Clinical Practitioners ("ACP") to utilize for achievement of practice readiness and clinical competency for certain core practices and procedures required in the practice of urgent care medicine. QI University can be utilized for the fulfillment of the quality improvement process that is required by the North and South Carolina State Medical Boards, in the collaborative relationship between the primary supervising physician and his/her State Medical Board assigned ACP(s).

Objectives

  • Identify Lis Franc foot injuries, cuboid syndrome, navicular fracture and Jones fracture of the foot based on history, exam and x-ray findings
  • Identify difference between Jones fracture and non-Jones (Dancer’s fracture)
  • Review if injury to foot is best managed with non-weight bearing, then walker boot is not indicated
  • Review foot injuries that will need Ortho referral within next couple of days and discuss how posterior splint is sufficient in the interim
  • Discuss and launch review of PID and Cervicitis – QI Article supports pelvic exam not helpful in diagnosing PID and Cervicitis
  • Review diagnosis of Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomonas and Bacterial Vaginitis in urgent care setting
  • Discuss and review proper collection of samples we currently perform in urgent care
  • Discuss evidence based best treatment for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomonas and BV
  • Define syncope
  • Summarize evaluation of syncope in urgent care
  • Summarize differential diagnosis of syncope
  • Support statement - "EKG is the ONLY test that should be done in patients with syncope"
  • Support the review article that same predictors of good outcomes in syncope workup can be achieved with history, physical and EKG
