MOC IV/CME/MIPS APPROVED: Improving Identification of Patients with or at Risk for Opioid Syndrome

Description

Patients with opioid misuse syndrome are at risk for significant morbidity and mortality. Identification of those patients is the first step in preventing poor outcomes. We aim to improve patient care at this practice with or at risk for opioid misuse syndrome, by appropriately identifying those patients so further treatment plans can be given.


Completion length: 6-9 months
Patient Population: All patients 18 and older prescribed opiates for longer than six weeks duration
Credit: All healthcare teammates actively participating in this project are eligible for credit.

Atrium Health designates this Performance Improvement Activity for a maximum of 25.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in this activity.

Stages for a Performance Improvement Activity: All stages are worth 5 credits for participation

Stage A: Learning from current practice performance assessment
• Chart reviews, self-assessment, or other appropriate mechanisms of data collection.
• Physicians actively involved in data collection and analysis.
• Identify problems and discuss issues/barriers relating to problem.
• Define goals for improvement and a plan for how to implement desired interventions to create change.

Stage B: Learning from the application of PI to patient care
• Implement/participate in intervention(s) based on chart data
• Guidance provided on applying interventions
• Summary of interventions implemented and understandings developed

Stage C:Learning from evaluation of PI effort
• Re-evaluate and reflect on performance in practice
• Compare to assessment done in Stage A
• Summarize any practice, process, or outcome changes

Completion of all three stages: 5 Credits for participation

Other healthcare professions: This Performance Improvement Activity fulfills the requirement for 2.0 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), representing 20.0 contact hours.


Completion of this accredited CME activity meets the expectations of an Accredited Safety or Quality Improvement Program (IA_PSPA_28) for the Merit-based Incentive Payment Program (MIPS).


This QI Effort meets MOC Part IV Standards and Guidelines for the ABMS Multi-Specialty Portfolio Approval Program Organization and is eligible for MOC Part IV through participating ABMS Member Boards and for Category 1 PI-CME credits through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

As an Approved Portfolio Sponsor, Charlotte AHEC has been approved by the ABMS Multi-Specialty Portfolio Approval Program Organization to approve QI Efforts for MOC Part IV (for physicians) and for Category 1 PI-CME credit (for PAs) through 06/01/2024.
