ALERT - The health and safety of our learners is of the utmost importance to us. We are closely monitoring the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. After much consideration and with circumstances changing so rapidly, Charlotte AHEC has rescheduled this training from May 20, 2020 to September 17, 2020. We are fully committed to ensuring that our attendees and staff remain safe and well.
Breast cancer is a disease that can impact the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, and lymphatic systems. With this workshop we will inform our audience of how these changes may impact the body’s ability to function in a pain free and efficient manner, and how to improve the quality of life for our patients.
Special topics to be included in this lecture will be axillary web syndrome, scapular dyskinesia, sexual health of breast cancer patients, balance issues/decreased fall risk, cognitive changes secondary to chemotherapy, peripheral neuropathy and exercise guidelines for survivors.

Charlotte AHEC, as part of the NC AHEC system, is an approved provider by the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners with regard to activities directly related to physical therapy for continued competence.
This course is being held in collaboration with Duke AHEC.
Objectives
- Review the most common medical/surgical approaches to managing breast cancer
- Identify and discuss common musculoskeletal conditions in breast cancer that would benefit from physical therapy
- Outline the components of a physical therapy evaluation for breast cancer patients
- Suggest guidelines for therapeutic interventions for breast cancer patients for the following conditions
- Review current evidence regarding physical therapy interventions for breast cancer patients
