Description

The AMA, APA, and NASW offer similar guidance within their professional codes of ethics about the crucial role of maintaining wellness as an ethical responsibility. The American Medical Association highlights some startling statistics that physician burnout rates hover around 44%, with 15% of providers stating that they have experienced colloquial or clinical forms of depression. The pervasiveness of burnout and occupational stress point to a glaring problem that cannot be ignored: healthcare professionals must take an active role in maintaining wellness; additionally, professionals must advocate for work environments that nurture and support wellness of its providers.

Burnout, stress, and professional disengagement can lead to compromised practice and a breach in upholding professional ethics. This dynamic and interactive training explores factors related to stress and burnout. In addition, strategies are provided that will assist participants in being able to recognize warning signs, mitigate the effects of stress, and develop resilience. Actionable tools are offered as well as a roadmap for navigating difficult ethical issues, particularly related to conduct of colleagues.
