Description

Have you ever stopped to think how important your skeleton is to you? You can't move without it. Your brain is protected because of it. It makes your blood and stores your minerals. In this session you will gain an appreciation for all your skeleton does for you. We will begin by identifying the major bones of the skeleton through a hands-on experience with models. We will then learn the symptoms associated with common diseases of the skeletal system. We will finish up with an in-depth look at bone density and osteoporosis. You'll have an osteoblast!

Objectives

  • Locate major bones of the body and play a game identifying bone models.
  • Build a model of a bone illustrating healthy bone anatomy.
  • Differentiate between male and female skeletons based on analysis of the skull and the pelvis.
  • Determine the age of a skeleton based on suture analysis.
  • Assemble a paper skeleton and identify a missing person using gender and age clues from the skeleton.
  • Describe diseases of the skeletal system.
  • Provide career fields that relate to the skeletal system.
