To equip providers who see patients with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) to be able to effectively assess, treat, and/or manage them.

As of July 1, 2018, the NCBOT no longer accepts applications for pre-approval of CCAs. OT practitioners need to make sure they are completing activities that comply with Section .0800 of the NCBOT Rules.

Objectives

  • Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Describe general anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system
  • Describe the pathophysiology of BPPV
  • Describe the epidemiology and health impact of BPPV
  • Effectively assess BPPV, determining involved canals
  • Differentiate between BPPV and other disorders, which do not meet the criteria for a diagnosis of BPPV
  • Demonstrate hands-on BPPV assessment techniques
  • Describe treatment for BPPV for all variants/canals
  • Demonstrate hands-on BPPV treatment techniques
  • Determine if treatment was successful or not and make appropriate referrals for conditions that do not respond to treatment
