Healthcare is a very uneven playing field. What’s most unfair about health and healthcare? Will we ever address the ethics of equity with equanimity? Our greatest impediment to addressing these ethical questions is our closed mindsets. Closed mindsets set up dysfunctional polarizations and inhibit our creative capabilities in developing innovative policies and practices to reduce inequities. However, our efforts to reduce inequities are swimming upstream against political dysfunction in healthcare. Furthermore, payors, provider systems and third party insurance have mal-aligned leadership mindsets. Mal-aligned mindsets are our greatest barrier to value-based and equity-based care.
Given this stark reality, the legacy systems of volume-based care face enormous transformational challenges in adapting to where healthcare must go. Furthermore, the determinants of health inequities lie beyond the healthcare sector. How can healthcare organizations empower their local communities to lead the way? Where are our beacons of light?
Reading materials will be provided to reflect and dialogue about how we can align our leadership mindsets for both value-based and equity-based healthcare. In small groups, participants will engage in dialogues to address the objectives below.
