Currently many PTs are practicing in acute care and especially in ICU and do not have the knowledge or clinical skills due to the complexities that are now seen in these settings. This intermediate course has been developed to help clinicians, residents in training, and educators to gain this advanced knowledge in a lecture and lab situation.
This course provides in-depth, hands-on and didactic education for cardiopulmonary clinical residents as well as PTAs and other healthcare providers in the community who could benefit from this increased knowledge.
SPECIAL NOTE: The instructors of this course have provided two entry-level recordings to be viewed prior to attending. These recordings are NOT a pre-requisite to attending. For those persons who wish to have a resource on cardiovascular and pulmonary pathophysiology prior to the course as a source of knowledge and education, we encourage you to please view. Objectives
- Perform thorough physical examinations on patient with cardiopulmonary dysfunction including auscultation, inspection, palpation, percussion and assessment of mobility and exercise tolerance.
- Discuss information from case studies on cardiovascular and pulmonary disease and identify important information that helps to determine assessment and treatment plan.
- Discuss key evidence in the field of cardiopulmonary physical therapy and utilize the evidence to determine optimal treatment plans for these patients.
- Discuss results from cardiopulmonary diagnostic tests and interpret results to make an appropriate clinical decision about treatment interventions.
- Present current treatment techniques and use of oxygen to assist patient performances.
- Describe the results of the current evidence on early mobility to use as a justification to make changes in their clinical setting.
