Grandma was right... an ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure! This class takes you on a tour of the foundations of global population health nursing, discusses health promotion, clinical preventive services, clinical practice within global population health, and some components of health policy and systems.

About the Speaker
Ruth Smith, DNP, RN, CN-BN has been a registered nurse for 25 years, starting out with an associate nursing degree from Salt Lake Community College in 1992. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNC-Charlotte in 2005, a post-graduate Nursing Education certificate in 2008 from UNC-C, and a Master of Nursing degree in 2009 from UNC-C. Most recently she earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Western Carolina University, in a dual program with WCU and UNCC. She has worked over the years in Med-Surg, Oncology, Community and public health including home health and school health and served on numerous committees providing health education to the community including BLS education. Her current role is serving as a clinical nurse leader for Carolinas Healthcare NorthEast as the breast health center nurse navigator/coordinator. She also serves as adjunct faculty in Nursing for UNC-Charlotte, Western Carolina University and Winston-Salem State University. She serves on the CHS DNP Council and on a steering committee for Levine Cancer Institute Concord. Ruth is active in community service events in several NC counties and serves as pianist/organist for her church. She is married, with three children and four grandchildren. She enjoys music, her family and gardening.
