Description

This course has been designed to provide nurses, nutritionists, social workers, office staff and clinicians a review of breastfeeding. The first half of the course focuses on an exploration of personal attitudes about breastfeeding, the benefits of breastfeeding and the risks of not breastfeeding, the way that the breast makes milk, getting breastfeeding started and the signs of effective breastfeeding. The second half of the course focuses on solving common problems/concerns experienced by breastfeeding mothers: insufficient milk supply, engorgement, sore nipples, plugged ducts, mastitis, yeast, and returning to work. During the second half of the training, there is a section on applying the information learned to the work setting. The goal of the course is to have staff trained to manage common breastfeeding concerns that surface during an office visit or home visit.
