Target Audience

Academic nursing faculty and nurse educators who are teaching in the academic setting.

Description

This course is designed to provide nurse educators in an associate degree program or baccalaureate program a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of nursing education. Best practices of clinical and didactic education, accreditation guidelines, curriculum and course development and assessment and evaluation strategies will be explored to promote successful pre-licensure student outcomes.

Learning Outcome
The learner will explore the differences between clinical practice and nursing education to foster pre-licensure student success.

About the Speaker
Mary M. Smith, RN, MSN, CNE is a Senior Lecturer at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte School of Nursing. Her area of interest is Adult Medical Surgical Nursing, Complex Nursing Management, Pathophysiology, Academic Support and the development of simulation clinicals for senior level students. Mary was a recipient of the North Carolina Great 100 award and UNCC Undergraduate Teaching Award. She has presented at local, regional and national nursing conferences and has taught the Certification in Nursing Education (CNE) review courses since 2007.
