Upright Leadership: Using Ethical Guidelines to Steer your Nursing Decisions
*Registration payment includes Credit Cards and Interfund Transfers ONLY.
Target Audience
RNs who work in health care organizations. The program will be of special interest to those who hold administrative roles.
Description
**This program is being offered in cooperation with the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Nursing
Most nurses have discussed ethics in school and at work, usually with a focus on the care of individual patients. However, there are many situations in which organizational and patient care ethics conflict and in which both include elements of “right”.
This participatory program explores a number of those situations and applies the concept of moral courage to them. Attendees will have an opportunity to use their knowledge and experiences to resolve several challenging cases that demand a significant degree of moral courage.
Objectives
- • List four ethical principles.
- • Explore those principles’ relationship to moral courage.
- • Discuss sources of moral distress among nurses with formal organizational leadership roles.
- • Identify how nurse leaders can best promote moral courage.
- • Using three cases, identify the ethical challenges that health care organizations face as they attempt to promote ethical decisions.
